You’re in for an active and relaxed river cruise/bike holiday between Passau and Bratislava. The European capitals of Vienna and Bratislava are waiting to be explored, and on two wheels you’ll have the chance to experience some of the prettiest stretches of the river Danube: the Danube valley, the Wachau and the Donau-Auen national park near Devin. This cycling tour is perfectly suitable for novices and experienced cyclists alike, and couples or groups can customise their itineraries to suit their preferences. Day 1 Arrival in Passau, boat trip
Passau’s historic centre has a very distinct Mediterranean flair about it. Embarkation at approx. 6:30 pm. Boat trip around 22:00 through the Danube valley.
Day 2 Schlögen - Linz, approx. 56 km/ 90 mi
You’ll be cycling through the romantic Danube valley, home to the Schlögen Loop (Schlögener Schlinge). Today’s destination is Linz, Europe’s cultural capital of 2009. The Esmeralda will take you onwards to Ybbs overnight.
Day 3 Ybbs - Weißenkirchen, approx. 58 km/ 93 mi
On today’s route, you’ll encounter the splendid Melk Abbey, as well as charming wine villages. Overnight, your ship will take you onwards to Vienna.
Day 4 Vienna, approx. 22 km/ 35 mi
How about a shopping trip on Mariahilfer Straße or relaxing and recharging in one of the local taverns (“Heuriger”) in Nußdorf? Or perhaps you want to explore the Hofburg or the Schönbrunn Palace, the Prater or the Danube island? Regardless of whether you’re walking or cycling, Vienna is home to a host of exciting spots to explore.
Day 5 Vienna - Bratislava, approx. 68 km/ 109 mi
Today’s cycling route through the Donau-Auen national park offers lots of nature and sights, such as Hof castle and Devin. Bratislava is perfectly explorable by bike. Overnight cruise to Tulln.
Day 6 Tulln - Weißenkirchen, approx. 56 km/ 90 mi
Once you leave the flower city of Tulln on the Danube cycle path, you will ride past Krems and Dürnstein towards Weißenkirchen. Overnight, the Esmeralda will take you to Grein.
Day 7 Grein - Linz, approx. 57 km/ 92 mi
From the baroque town of Grein, you’ll be cycling past castles such as Dornach and Wallsee until you reach Linz. Followed by an overnight boat trip to Passau.
Day 8 Passau and departure
Your trip Passau - Bratislava by boat & bike comes to an end. Around 10:30 am we will be arriving in Passau where this tour concludes.
