The Tour

Bike tour in the Innviertel - Steyr

This bike tour in the Innviertel takes you along familiar and unfamiliar paths through the foothills of the Alps, with the provincial capital Linz as the starting and finishing point. The rivers Danube and Inn, Enns, Steyr and Ischl make for pleasantly easy cycling, and the landscapes in the Salzkammergut, the Danube valley and the Inn floodplains are magnificent. The big city of Linz is the antithesis to the rural character of this bike tour in the Innviertel, for which you should bring some basic fitness.

Day 1 Arrival in Linz
As the former European Capital of Culture, Linz has a lot to offer. Discover the historic city centre and the modern museums or enjoy the view from the Pöstlingberg.

Day 2 Linz - Steyr, approx. 55 km/34 mi
First cycling along the Danube, then the Enns, you reach the town of Enns, whose town tower opens a EUR 2 piece. In Steyr, Lamberg Castle awaits a visit.

Day 3 Steyr - Bad Ischl, approx. 70 km/44 mi
The tour includes the spa town of Bad Hall, where Gustav Mahler conducted for the first time, and the important Kremsmünster Abbey. At the Traunsee you have reached the Salzkammergut, the train takes you to the imperial summer resort Bad Ischl.

Day 4 Bad Ischl - Salzburg, approx. 70 km/44 mi
Wolfgangsee and Mondsee are the most famous lakes on the way to the Mozart city of Salzburg. In addition to sweet Mozartkugeln and Nockerln, you should try the spicy Bosna.

Day 5 Salzburg - Braunau, approx. 60 km/37 mi
A short train ride brings you to Oberndorf with the famous Silent Night Chapel. From here the route follows good paths along the Salzach to Braunau. Visit the world's longest castle in Burghausen on the way.

Day 6 Braunau - Schärding, approx. 50 km/31 mi
The tour continues along the Inn River, the small town of Obernberg, Reichersberg Monastery and the baroque town of Schärding are the stops worth seeing today.

Day 7 Schärding - Schlögen, approx. 55 km/34 mi
Explore the bishop's town of Passau, then the cycle tour takes you through the Danube valley, which is sparsely populated and close to nature. Enjoy an evening view of the Schlögener Schlinge from the heights.

Day 8 Schlögen-Linz, 55km/34mi, departure or extra night
The valley becomes wider and brighter, pretty little towns like Aschach and Ottensheim are cycled through. Around 17:00 you can take over your luggage, but an additional overnight stay in Linz is also worthwhile.
