Those who do not simply want to cycle along the excellent Danube Cycle Path to Vienna, but also want to feel at home in selected charming and comfortable hotels, will enjoy this holiday cycling from Passau to Vienna. The stages have been designed so that you will have enough time to explore everything on your journey, especially the charming Wachau region. In Vienna you will spend the night centrally, in the 1st district (1. Bezirk), which means you are close to the most important sights of this fascinating metropolis.

Cycling from Passau to Vienna - Schiffslände Schlögen

Day 1 Arrival in Passau
3-river boat trip and the historical town centre set the mood for your holiday.

Day 2 Passau - Schlögen region, approx. 45 km/25 mi
The Danube Valley becomes tight, high and steep, Engelszell Abbey lies at the heart of this sparsely populated area.

Day 3 Schlögen region - Linz, approx. 56 km/35 mi
After cycling though lots of nature you will reach the 2009 cultural capital Linz, which has a beautiful historical town centre and modern museums.

Day 4 Linz - Ardagger, approx. 55 km/34 mi
The wide Machland area is easy to cycle, you should visit Enns and Mitterkirchen on your journey.

Day 5 Ardagger - Melk, approx. 50 km/31 mi
While the Struden- and Niebelungengau landscapes are rough, the Baroque Abbey Melk is beautiful and mellow.

Day 6 Melk - Weißenkirchen, approx. 25 km/16 mi
Take your time to explore the Wachau Region, where one idyllic wine village comes after the next.

Day 7 Weißenkirchen - Stockerau, 65 km/41mi
Krems and the Roman town Tulln are worth seeing. With the vineyards behind you, you will cross the Tullner Feld to Stockerau.

Day 8 Stockerau - Vienna, 30 km/19 mi
Klosterneuburg Abbey with the Verdun Altar and an excellent wine cellar beckons. Along the Danube Canal you cycle into the Viennese 1st district.

Day9 Departure or extension

Arrival to "Cycling from Passau to Vienna":

  • Parking in Passau:
    There are many long-term parking spots available at Passau train station and on the outskirts of Passau. They are multi-storey car parks, individual garages or fenced in parking spots. Costs approx. EUR 35-70/week. You can find further information in the travel documents.
  • Arrival in Passau via train:
    From the train station to the hotels in the old town it takes about 15 minutes on foot. The hotels in the Inn district are approx. 2,5 kilometers from the train station. We recommend taking a taxi, costs approx. EUR 7
  • Arrival at Munich airport:
    Distance to Passau approx. 160 km, excellent train connections, journey takes approx. 3 hours.
    Train ticket price per person: approx. EUR 30
    Rental car, one way per vehicle: EUR 100-130

  • Arrival at Vienna airport:
    Distance to Passau approx. 310 km, excellent train connections, journey takes approx. 3 hours.

  • Return by Minibus (included 30.04.-23.09.):

    Good connections via Vienna main train station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), change trains 1x, duration approx. 2,5 - 3 hours. You must reserve own bikes several days in advance (not included). The transfer Vienna-Passau can also take place at the beginning of the trip.
